North Sumatra Deputy Governor: Paskibraka development does not stop at Independence Day

Medan (ANTARA) - North Sumatra Deputy Governor Surya has stated that the development of the 74 members of the Provincial Heritage Flag Hoisting Troop (Paskibraka) does not stop after the commemoration of the Independence Day of the Republic of Indonesia.

“Development must not stop after 17 August,” said Surya after dismissing the 74 North Sumatra Provincial Paskibraka members who had carried out their duties for the 81st Independence Day commemoration at the North Sumatra Governor’s Office on Tuesday.

He added that collaboration in development between the provincial government, regencies, cities, the Purna Paskibraka Indonesia association, schools, families, and the people of North Sumatra must continue to be strengthened.

Building North Sumatra is not only aimed at physical and economic progress, but also at producing a generation that is excellent, of strong character, and has concern for the region.

The Deputy Governor said the North Sumatra Provincial Government hopes that in the future, leaders of North Sumatra and Indonesia will emerge from the ranks of the heritage flag hoisting troop.

“I hope that in the years to come, from the Paskibraka ranks standing before me today, leaders of North Sumatra and Indonesia will be born,” said Surya.

He expressed appreciation for the Paskibraka members who have undergone the selection, education, and training process. He advised that the completion of the flag hoisting does not mean the end of their service.

“Today you are indeed returning to your respective regions. The Paskibraka uniform may be taken off, but the values that have been gained should not be cast aside,” he said.

“Discipline, responsibility, integrity, togetherness, the spirit of unity, and love for Indonesia,” said Surya.

Head of the Ideology, National Insight, and National Character Development Division of the North Sumatra National Unity and Politics Agency, Andry Simatupang, explained that the 74 North Sumatra Paskibraka members consisted of 41 young men and 33 young women.

He explained that the North Sumatra Provincial Paskibraka members had undergone education and training under a residential system at the Wisma Atlet of the North Sumatra Youth and Sports Agency from 6–17 August 2026.

“Hopefully the values gained during the training and the togetherness that has been built will be maintained forever,” said Andry.
