North Sumatra Deputy Governor offers regional investment potential to Belgian Ambassador
North Sumatra Deputy Governor Surya has offered investment potential in his region, including the Nias Islands, to the Belgian Ambassador to Indonesia, Timor-Leste, and ASEAN, David Jordens.
Surya said the North Sumatra Provincial Government is committed to creating a safe and comfortable investment climate for investors.
This commitment was conveyed by Surya after meeting with David Jordens at the North Sumatra Governor’s Office on Monday.
He said the meeting discussed a number of cooperation opportunities in various potential fields, including industry, plantations, academia, sports, and technology.
According to Surya, North Sumatra has great potential to be developed together with Belgium.
Therefore, he continued, this meeting is expected to be the initial gateway to building more concrete cooperation.
Of course, cooperation will provide benefits for both countries, particularly North Sumatra and its people.
“I think there is a lot we can develop together because North Sumatra has enormous potential, and we ensure safe and comfortable investment to develop our region,” said Surya.
The Deputy Governor also expressed hope that the meeting could be followed up through more concrete cooperation that directly impacts the people of North Sumatra.
Moreover, Belgium has a number of advantages that can be collaborated with North Sumatra, particularly in the fields of academia, sports, and technology.
“Going forward, I hope we can discuss more concrete cooperation, cooperation that can have an impact on the development of North Sumatra and Belgium and also the welfare of our people,” Surya explained.
Meanwhile, David Jordens expressed his interest in exploring cooperation in the field of sports with North Sumatra.
He said North Sumatra has an international-standard sports facility complex that could become an opportunity for developing cooperation between Belgium and North Sumatra.
“Not just athletes, but also sports technology. We have many sports companies, such as providers and managers of pitch grass, lighting, and design. If there is a business matching event, I will bring investors here,” said Jordens.
In addition to sports, Jordens also expressed interest in the development and management of oil palm in North Sumatra.
According to him, the current challenge for oil palm is increasing productivity effectively and efficiently without having to expand land area.
“We are now thinking about how palm oil can produce more with existing land, rather than expanding the land area. We can strengthen this cooperation,” said Jordens.
