North Sukabumi Regency Awaits Central Government's Approval
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SUKABUMI – The process of forming the New Autonomous Region (DOB) of North Sukabumi Regency has entered its final stage. Commission I of the West Java Provincial DPRD has confirmed that all administrative requirements have been completed.
Now, its realisation is merely awaiting the central government’s decision regarding the lifting of the moratorium on regional splitting. Member of Commission I of the West Java DPRD, Yusuf Ridwan, stated that this readiness extends beyond mere administrative documents.
The Sukabumi Regency government is also deemed to have made thorough preparations, including devising an initial funding scheme to support the operations of the new region.
“Overall, Sukabumi Regency is ready. Now the focus is on urging the central government to make a decision as soon as possible,” Yusuf said during an evaluation with the Sukabumi Regency government on Wednesday (22/4/2026).
According to him, the West Java DPRD will soon coordinate with Commission II of the DPR to obtain certainty regarding the moratorium’s status. This step is important to determine whether opportunities for regional splitting have been opened, either comprehensively or on a limited basis.
“All stages have been completed. It’s just a matter of waiting for a response from the centre. This is what we will push for,” he said.
Yusuf also invited the public to monitor the splitting process until its completion. Public support, he said, is a key factor in strengthening political momentum to realise the formation of DOB North Sukabumi as soon as possible.
He emphasised that the splitting of this region is greatly needed, given the vast area of Sukabumi Regency, which impacts the span of control in service delivery. With the DOB, public services are expected to become closer, faster, and more equitable.
“Amid budget efficiency policies, this splitting remains a priority. The goal is clear: to enhance service quality and equitable development,” he concluded.
