North Maluku women's appeal

North Maluku women's appeal

From Media Indonesia

As a response to our collective desire for democracy and
justice, we are continuously bombarded by slogans and calls
demanding that democracy should prevail and justice be upheld.

According to our democratic process, the selection of the
governor and his deputy is carried out through the local council
and the results must, therefore, be accepted by everyone.

For the positions of the North Maluku governor and the deputy
governor, Abdul Gafur and Yamin Tawari respectively, were
selected through this democratic process on July 5, 2001.

In the name of democracy and justice, the Women's
Organization of North Maluku (PIMU) would like to appeal to the
President and the minister for home affairs to install both of
the above positions as soon as possible. This is immediately
required so that we have a definite and legitimate head of the
region, and so the development in the province would not be
hindered any further.

To the North Maluku people, we urge you to create a peaceful
and united atmosphere, which is inherent in our motto.
