North Maluku has overtaken several large provinces in investment service delivery. Under the leadership of Governor Sherly Tjoanda and Deputy Governor Sarbin Sehe, the island province has been named the first winner of the 2026 Investment Service Awards in the Provincial Government category.

The award was presented by the Ministry of Investment and Downstreaming/Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) during the 2026 Investment Service Awards ceremony in Jakarta on Wednesday, 16 September 2026. The trophy was received directly by Governor Sherly Tjoanda, with the award presented by the Minister of State Apparatus Utilization and Bureaucratic Reform, Rini Widyantini.

North Maluku successfully outperformed five other nominated provinces, namely West Java, Central Java, East Java, South Sulawesi, and South Sumatra. In the final rankings, Central Java placed third, East Java placed second, and North Maluku emerged as the top-performing province.

This accolade positions the quality of investment services as a vital aspect of the North Maluku administration. These services are led by the Head of the North Maluku Investment and One-Stop Integrated Services Agency (DPMPTSP), Dr Nirwan M.T. Ali.

The Minister of Investment and Downstreaming/BKPM, Rosan Perkasa Roeslani, stated that investment services are a key component in improving the investment climate in Indonesia. According to Rosan, local governments play a crucial role in creating investment services that are fast, transparent, and provide certainty to the business community.

“Investment services are one of the keys to how we can improve the overall investment climate in Indonesia,” Rosan said in his speech. He noted that investment should not stop at the influx of capital into a region; rather, it is expected to evolve into industrial activity and create employment opportunities.

“Most importantly, we must attract both domestic and foreign investment, which ultimately leads to job creation,” he added. Rosan emphasised that the jobs created must be of high quality. He noted that creating employment is a shared responsibility, especially as Indonesia’s population continues to grow, with approximately two million babies born every year.

Rosan also remarked that the 2026 Investment Service Awards serve as an effort to build optimism and encourage local governments to improve service quality. He expressed hope that investment services would become increasingly efficient, transparent, and provide certainty to business actors, as certainty remains a primary benchmark for investors.

Meanwhile, the Head of DPMPTSP, Nirwan M.T. Ali, noted that this award comes at a time when the province, rich in natural resources and industrial zones, is continuously striving to strengthen downstreaming. “The quality of government services is a determining factor in how that potential is translated into economic activity and employment opportunities. Under the leadership of Governor Sherly Tjoanda and Deputy Governor Sarbin Sehe, we continue to enhance those services,” Nirwan said.
