North Maluku MSMEs Targeted to Enter Industrial Supply Chains

Micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in North Maluku have the opportunity to enter industrial supply chains as investment grows in the region. This opportunity is particularly evident through the procurement needs for goods and services of PT Indonesia Weda Bay Industrial Park (IWIP) and several tenants within the industrial estate.

The Ministry of Investment and Downstreaming/Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM), in collaboration with IWIP, brought together 1ng 160 MSME players with IWIP and various industrial estate tenants during the Dissemination of National Business Partnership Policies for Investment in Ternate, North Maluku, on Tuesday (1/9/2026).

Partnership opportunities were discussed through two business matching sessions. During the event, IWIP and its tenants presented their work requirements and procurement needs for goods and services through the Scope of Work (SoW) and Bill of Quantities (BoQ). This allowed MSME operators to discuss the specific needs and procurement requirements required by the industry directly.

Yudhi Santoso, General Manager of External Relations at IWIP, stated that opportunities for local businesses to enter the supply chains of IWIP and its tenants remain open. In the second quarter of 2026, IWIP’s procurement expenditure with MSMEs reached IDR 1.1 trillion. During the same period, 77.6 per cent of IWIP’s spending was conducted within North Maluku.

“IWIP wants more local MSMEs to be ready to enter and sustain themselves within the industrial supply chain. We are opening avenues for communication and cooperation, while simultaneously encouraging entrepreneurs to strengthen legality, quality consistency, competitive pricing, punctuality, and service. These aspects are the foundation for long-term partnership growth,” Yudhi said in a written statement.

Consequently, MSMEs wishing to enter industrial supply chains must strengthen their business readiness, including legality, quality, pricing, punctuality, and service.

These opportunities arise amidst significant investment activity in North Maluku. Noor Sona Maesana Mushonnif, Special Staff to the Minister of Investment and Downstreaming/Head of BKPM for Downstreaming Acceleration and National Entrepreneurship Enhancement, stated that the growth of downstreaming must go hand-in-hand with the strengthening of national and regional entrepreneurs.
