North Luwu Police Unit Head Dismissed After Alleged Abuse of Detainee

The Professional and Security Division (Propam) of the North Luwu Police, South Sulawesi, has intervened to investigate the alleged abuse of a detainee by a police officer, which resulted in the victim being rushed to hospital. “Yes, Propam is currently handling the matter by summoning several witnesses and examining the officer in question,” said North Luwu Police Head of Public Relations, AKP Sapri, on Monday (27/7). The officer suspected of abusing the detainee is the head of the Women and Children Protection Unit (PPA) at the North Luwu Police, who holds the rank of Inspector. “The officer has been deactivated from his position as Kanit PPA of the North Luwu Police,” he explained. Despite this, Sapri stated that the investigation would continue to uncover the chronology and motive. “We will certainly work professionally, and if proven, we will impose strict sanctions,” he said. The detainee, identified by the initials CSTA (21), was a suspect in an assault case being handled by the North Luwu Police. The alleged abuse occurred on Friday (24/7) while the detainee was undergoing proceedings for the assault case. “If the investigation finds any violations, firm action will be taken in accordance with applicable regulations,” he added.
