North Korea: Strengthening nuclear weapons is the right choice to ensure regional security

Seoul (ANTARA) - The possession of and commitment by North Korea to strengthen its nuclear weapons is the most appropriate and responsible choice to guarantee peace and security in the region, the country’s Foreign Ministry stated on Monday, as reported by the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA).

“Our nuclear weapons serve as an absolute guarantee to defend our national sovereignty, and the DPRK’s possession of nuclear weapons and ongoing efforts to strengthen them is the most appropriate and responsible choice for ensuring regional peace and security,” the North Korean Foreign Ministry stated.

The Ministry added that the security situation in the region is becoming unstable due to the increasingly aggressive nuclear posture of the United States, Japan’s steps towards rearmament, and the strengthening of military capabilities by South Korea within the framework of trilateral military cooperation between Washington, Tokyo, and Seoul.

The Foreign Ministry emphasised that North Korea’s current status, which is permanently established in the country’s highest law, cannot be weakened or obscured by repeated US statements regarding denuclearisation.
