North Korea showcases drones and rocket launchers as Kim calls for technology development
Tokyo (ANTARA) – North Korea staged a demonstration of several weapons systems, including unmanned aircraft, cruise missiles and multiple rocket launchers, at an unmanned aerospace technology exhibition on Thursday (29 October).
According to a Friday report by North Korea’s state-run Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un used the demonstration to call for the rapid development of drone technology. He said developing the technology was indispensable to achieving “absolute superiority” in drones amid the evolving nature of modern warfare.
“Strength means peace, and peace can only be guaranteed by strength,” Kim said.
He urged progress in unmanned aviation and artificial intelligence technology in North Korea, noting that the country had made new advances in upgrading conventional weapons in addition to possessing nuclear weapons.
Kim stressed the need for the country to accelerate the development of unmanned aerospace technology, but did not provide further details.
Kim attended the exhibition accompanied by his wife and daughter.
Meanwhile, on the same Thursday, South Korea’s military detected the launch of about 10 short-range ballistic missiles towards the Sea of Japan from the area around Wonsan on North Korea’s east coast.
