North Korea accuses NATO of expanding war preparations

North Korea, on Saturday, accused the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) of accelerating military preparations for future conflicts. Pyongyang claimed that the alliance’s plans to expand its fuel supply network demonstrate its transformation into a more aggressive military bloc.

In a commentary published by the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), Pyongyang criticised NATO’s reported plans to expand and modernise its military fuel transport system throughout Europe. The fuel transport system includes new pipelines and energy storage facilities connecting Western Europe with new member states in the east and north.

Pyongyang’s commentary claimed that the project reflects NATO’s focus on maintaining strategic war reserves and accused the alliance of preparing for conflicts outside of Europe, including in the Asia-Pacific.

“In recent years, NATO, which has spoken about the separation of security in Europe and the Asia-Pacific region, has increasingly introduced the strategic assets of its member states into the Asia-Pacific region, demonstrating its military presence,” KCNA claimed.

Pyongyang also criticised the participation of NATO members in multinational military exercises, such as the Rim of the Pacific exercise, arguing that it proves the alliance views the Asia-Pacific as a potential battlefield. The commentary alleged that the increase in NATO’s military strength and the expansion of its logistics aim to enable rapid military operations worldwide, warning that such efforts will escalate global tensions.

NATO has consistently stated that its stance is defensive and intended to deter threats while ensuring the collective security of its member states.
