North Kayu Mas Road in Pulogadung Collapses, Vehicle Access Closed
JAKARTA - North Kayu Mas Road in Pulogadung, East Jakarta, specifically beside the Sunter River, collapsed on Saturday (21/3/2026) and remains impassable for vehicles to this day. Based on observations at the site on Thursday (26/3/2026), the road surface appeared cracked and slanted. This condition prevents both two-wheeled and four-wheeled vehicles from passing. Local residents have erected barriers at the end of the road to prevent vehicles from entering the dangerous area. However, pedestrians are still allowed to pass, provided they exercise caution. Kasiyah (58), a resident of RT 11/RW 03 Pulogadung, stated that the road damage was visible from the morning but worsened in the afternoon and evening. “From Saturday morning, 21 March 2026, cars, ojeks, and motorbikes could still pass. Then in the afternoon, it started cracking, and by evening, it had collapsed and become impassable. They marked it and put up barriers,” said Kasiyah when met on Thursday. She also mentioned that the underside of the road had potholes before the collapse. “The bottom had holes that were already breaking apart. Now it’s collapsed and caved in; the rain the day before was very heavy,” she explained. Kasiyah added that several residents have complained about the condition because repairs have not been carried out adequately. “Yes, people went to the kelurahan, those in blue uniforms and orange uniforms came in the evening, and this afternoon they all came to check,” she said.
