Tanjung Selor, North Kalimantan (ANTARA) - The Governor of North Kalimantan, Zainal A. Paliwang, has requested that every report regarding fire hotspots be responded to swiftly by the relevant departments to ensure that forest and land fires (karhutla) can be controlled.

“Every report regarding a hotspot must be responded to immediately so that forest and land fires can be controlled and prevented from spreading,” Zainal stated in Tanjung Selor, North Kalimantan, on Thursday.

The Governor made these remarks when asked about his direct inspection of fire management at Kilometer 12, Gunung Sari Village, Tanjung Selor District, Bulungan Regency, on Wednesday (9/9).

Zainal stated that the inspection, which he conducted alongside the Head of the North Kalimantan Forestry Service (Dishut), Nur Laila, and other officials, was prompted by reports of a hotspot on community-owned land.

“I, along with the North Kalimantan Forestry Service, inspected the field to ensure that handling was proceeding quickly and that the fire did not expand,” he said.

According to Zainal, the fire in the Tanjung Selor district was successfully extinguished quickly thanks to the alertness of joint officers from the North Kalimantan Forestry Service, the Bulungan Forest Management Unit (KPH), and support from the Fire Care Community (MPA).

In light of the rapid response by the officers, Governor Zainal expressed his appreciation to all personnel and community members who acted swiftly to handle the fire and prevent it from spreading.

“I appreciate all the personnel and the community who worked together in the field firefighting efforts,” said Zainlag.

He emphasised that preparedness and monitoring in high-risk areas are vital components in preventing forest and land fires from developing into larger conflagrations.

Consequently, the North Kalimantan Provincial Government continues to encourage synergy between the government, field officers, and the community in efforts toward the prevention and management of forest and land fires.

Zainal urged the public to remain vigilant, particularly in areas with high fire potential. The community is also expected to report any discovered hotspots immediately so they can be addressed as quickly as possible.

“The North Kalimantan Provincial Government remains committed to strengthening preparedness and the management of forest and land fires,” he concluded.
