North Kalimantan Brimob Commander leads cooling operation to ensure forest and land fires are fully extinguished
Tanjung Selor, North Kalimantan (ANTARA) - Commander of the Mobile Brigade (Brimob) Unit of the North Kalimantan Regional Police, Senior Commissioner Sutrisno Hady Santoso, directly led extinguishing and cooling efforts to ensure that forest and land fires (karhutla) are completely extinguished.
“Together with 10 personnel from Pioneer Battalion A of the North Kalimantan Police Brimob Unit and joint officers from other agencies, we carried out cooling operations for forest and land fires in the Selimau area, Tanjung Selor, Bulungan Regency on Saturday (5/9),” said Senior Commissioner Sutrisno Hady Santoso in Tanjung Selor, North Kalimantan, on Sunday.
The North Kalimantan Brimob Commander stated that in addition to his personnel from Pioneer Battalion A led by First Inspector Edison, the cooling operation also involved synergy with 10 Indonesian Navy personnel and 10 personnel from the Bulungan Regency Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD).
“We are working in synergy with Indonesian Navy personnel and Bulungan BPBD in carrying out monitoring and cooling efforts in the affected area,” he said.
The North Kalimantan Police Brimob Commander emphasised that the activity was carried out as a follow-up measure after the fire occurred in the area.
“We are carrying out monitoring and cooling to ensure that there are no remaining hotspots or embers that could potentially trigger a recurrence of the fire,” he explained.
According to him, the North Kalimantan Police Brimob Unit deployed personnel to the location as a form of attention and commitment to ensuring that every forest and land fire handling process runs optimally, in a coordinated manner, and prioritises the safety of personnel and the community around the location.
He said he checked the situation and provided direction to the personnel involved to remain vigilant against the potential emergence of new hotspots, especially in areas where embers or smoke still remain.
“Forest and land fire handling does not stop after the fire has been successfully extinguished, but needs to be followed up with thorough monitoring and cooling to ensure conditions are truly safe,” he stressed.
He affirmed that the monitoring and cooling efforts represent the North Kalimantan Police Brimob Unit’s readiness in facing the threat of forest and land fires, while also strengthening synergy with the Indonesian National Armed Forces and BPBD in maintaining security, public safety, and environmental preservation in the North Kalimantan region.
“Personnel must remain alert to the possibility of hotspots re-emerging and continue to work in synergy with the Indonesian National Armed Forces and related agencies. Public safety and preventing the spread of forest and land fires are the top priorities,” he concluded.
