North Jakarta Transport Agency to trial traffic engineering at Plumpang Toll exit
The North Jakarta Transportation Sub-agency (Sudinhub) will implement a traffic engineering trial on Jalan Yos Sudarso, specifically in the Plumpang Toll exit area of Tanjung Priok, as an effort to prevent traffic violations.
The traffic engineering is being carried out in front of the North Jakarta District Prosecutor’s Office, as well as at the Plumpang U-turn heading from Yos Sudarso towards Kelapa Gading.
“This traffic engineering trial is also a follow-up to public reports regarding wrong-way driving violations and illegal levy practices in front of the North Jakarta District Prosecutor’s Office,” said Wahyu Wijayanto, Head of the Road Traffic Section at the North Jakarta Transportation Sub-agency, in Jakarta on Thursday.
The traffic engineering is being implemented to maintain smooth vehicle flow while improving road user safety. The agency aims to prevent two-wheeled vehicles from travelling against the traffic flow from Sungai Bambu towards Plumpang.
“This condition is very dangerous for other road users,” he said.
The traffic engineering trial will run from 28 August to 5 September 2026. The engineering focuses on managing vehicles exiting the Yos Sudarso off-ramp as well as vehicles making U-turns from both the south and north directions.
“Unlike before, the barrier has now been shifted to the right side of the road, or the eastern side, to create a dedicated lane resembling a busway lane,” he said.
Wahyu explained that the lane will be used jointly by Transjakarta buses and vehicles making U-turns towards Kelapa Gading.
To improve safety, the barriers used are a combination of concrete and plastic dividers. Plastic barriers are placed at the beginning and end of the lane to reduce the risk of fatalities in the event of an accident.
“At the initial and final ends, we use plastic barriers to minimise fatal conditions if an unwanted accident occurs,” he said.
He noted that the traffic engineering trial will last for one week, during which four officers will be deployed daily to help manage traffic flow while also conducting analysis and evaluation of the engineering implementation.
“After one week of trial, we will evaluate the results. We have also held technical meetings with relevant stakeholders and installed advisory banners so that road users receive the information,” Wahyu said.
He urged all road users to obey traffic signs and follow officers’ directions during the trial. These efforts are necessary to maintain smooth vehicle flow while supporting the safety and comfort of all road users.
“Hopefully this trial can solve the traffic problems around that location,” he said.
