North Jakarta Teenager Kills Brother with Hammer Blows

A teenager, identified only as MAH (16), in Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta, has been detained for assaulting his own brother, MAR (21), to the point of death. The perpetrator struck his brother on the head with a hammer.

The Head of the Women and Children Protection Unit (PPA) at the North Jakarta Metropolitan Police, Commissioner Ni Luh Sri Arsini, stated that the incident occurred in the Kelapa Gading area of North Jakarta on Tuesday afternoon (24 February).

“We are still conducting an investigation and delving into the true motive of the perpetrator to understand how he could commit such a heinous act against his brother, MAR (22),” said Commissioner Ni Luh Sri, as reported by Antara on Wednesday (25 February 2026).

According to Sri, before carrying out the act, the perpetrator harboured resentment, which eventually led to the heinous act. The police are still investigating the perpetrator’s motive.

Police suspect that the case was triggered by family problems. MAH is believed to have been jealous of the victim because he often received attention from their parents.

“Their mother runs a business outside the home, and their father lives separately from them,” she said.

The police are still conducting further investigations into the incident. The victim’s body is currently undergoing an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

“The victim is still undergoing an autopsy; the results have not yet been released,” she concluded.
