North Jakarta Mayor Hendra Hidayat stated that the International Labour Day commemoration serves as a momentum to strengthen tripartite synergy involving the government, businesses, and workers in facing various challenges in the employment sector.

Following the International Labour Day or May Day 2026 event at the North Jakarta Sub-Department of Manpower, Transmigration, and Energy Office on Saturday, he conveyed that changes in economic conditions and digital transformation present various employment challenges that demand collaboration among relevant stakeholders.

“May Day becomes a momentum to strengthen synergy in facing various future employment challenges,” he said, as quoted in the city government’s press release.

Hendra emphasised that industrial progress should go hand in hand with improvements in worker welfare.

He also highlighted the importance of strengthening industrial relations in efforts to create a conducive business climate while providing legal certainty and protection for the workforce.

Meanwhile, Muhammad Hori, as the Chairman of the May Day 2026 Event from the North Jakarta Labour Union Alliance, stressed the importance of workers maintaining solidarity and order in expressing aspirations and demands for workers’ rights.

He hoped that synergy among workers’ organisations, businesses, and the city government in efforts to improve welfare and workplace protection could be enhanced.

“May the future bring tangible improvements in aspects of welfare and labour protection,” he said.

The 2026 International Labour Day commemoration in North Jakarta carried the theme “Collaborative Efforts to Realise Industrial Progress and Worker Welfare” and the slogan “One Determination, One Goal, Prosperity Together.”

The event, initiated by the North Jakarta City Sub-Department of Manpower, Transmigration, and Energy, involved around 600 workers.
