North Jakarta Mayor Hendra Hidayat has urged residents to strengthen tolerance in the diverse social life of the northern area, saying that tolerance and mutual respect must be vital to community life.

‘North Jakarta is a multicultural area inhabited by various ethnic groups, religions and cultures, so diversity must be the key to continued unity,’ he said in Jakarta on Sunday.

Hendra said the Cap Go Meh celebration, held alongside the Holy Month of Ramadan, symbolises togetherness and interfaith tolerance in North Jakarta. In the celebration, residents from different backgrounds gathered to celebrate culture while breaking fast together.

Hendra also expressed thanks and appreciation to all RW 016 committee members and the Pantai Mutiara community who organised the event with a spirit of togetherness.

He said the event provides a forum for social ties and strengthens the bonds among residents. The Cap Go Meh celebration held during Ramadan is a symbol of community togetherness and harmony.

‘MThrough this momentum we invite all residents to continue supporting the Jaga Jakarta programme. With unity and mutual care, God willing North Jakarta will continue to be a safe, orderly and harmonious area,’ he added.

He hopes events like this will continue to foster the spirit of gotong royong, enhance inter-resident harmony, and strengthen social care within the community.

Hendra Hidayat also extended his congratulations to residents celebrating Cap Go Meh and to Muslims observing Ramadan.

‘THappy Cap Go Meh to those who celebrate and a blessed Ramadan to our Muslim brothers and sisters observing the fast. May this togetherness further strengthen the brotherhood among us all,’ he said.
