North Jakarta residents moved to tears as police return stolen motorcycle

Jakarta (ANTARA) – A North Jakarta resident, Neneng (51), was moved to tears when the North Jakarta Metropolitan Police Chief, Kombes Pol Erick Frendriz, returned her motorcycle which had been stolen for eight months by a motorcycle thief. ‘Praise be to God, I can once again be reunited with this motorcycle. I had been paying it off for a long time, and when I had finished paying, it was stolen,’ Neneng said at North Jakarta Police on Tuesday. She said she did not expect the suspect to be caught and her motorcycle to be returned for use again. The theft occurred while her younger sister was riding it about eight months ago near Sunter Lake, and Neneng said she had been unable to go about her activities since the loss, affecting her livelihood. ‘I will take this bike home and wash it with flowers to ward off bad things,’ she added. She praised Chief Erick Frendriz and Head of Criminal Investigation AKBP Awaludin Kanur and their team for capturing the theft and returning the bike. She said she was helped by the presence of police on the ground who could return her motorcycle. ‘We hope the police will eradicate street crime and all criminals in North Jakarta,’ she said. The police chief said the bike would be returned to the victim for daily use; ‘if needed for court proceedings it can be borrowed again, but for now it can be taken home,’ he said. He urged the public to secure their vehicles with a double lock, park in areas with officers and install CCTV cameras. ‘We will strengthen security with routine patrols and establish lookout posts to deter crime. If you need officers, please call 110 so they can respond promptly,’ he added.
