North Jakarta proposes procurement of tow trucks with over 20-ton lifting capacity
Jakarta (ANTARA) – The North Jakarta Transportation Sub-Department has proposed to the Jakarta Transportation Department the procurement of tow trucks with a lifting capacity of over 20 tons. This is intended as a solution in case of trailer trucks breaking down or overturning in the area, allowing for rapid response. “We only have one tow truck with a lifting capacity of 15 tons, and this is still insufficient for North Jakarta,” said the Head of Traffic and Road Transport Operations at the North Jakarta Transportation Sub-Department, Yulza Ramadhoni, in Jakarta on Wednesday. With the high volume of trailer trucks and large trucks using the roads, he said, the availability of a tow truck with a lifting capacity of over 20 tons is a vital necessity. “This is very much needed in North Jakarta,” he said. He cited an incident where a truck overturned in the Marunda area some time ago, and they were unable to carry out the evacuation, causing a long traffic jam. A similar situation occurred in the Babek TNI Cilincing area, where a truck got stuck, hindering traffic flow and causing congestion. At that time, they were unable to evacuate the truck because they did not have a large tow truck. According to Yulza, many trailer trucks carrying goods travel on the roads in North Jakarta, so if these trucks have problems, it will immediately affect traffic flow. “Hopefully, the procurement of a large tow truck for North Jakarta can be realised because it is needed,” he said. Currently, the North Jakarta Transportation Sub-Department only has one medium-sized tow truck and 16 small tow trucks. Every day, thousands of trailer trucks pass through the roads in North Jakarta, either heading to the Tanjung Priok Port or leaving the port area towards the city.
