North Jakarta Police Strengthen Security for Ramadan, Establish Joint Monitoring Posts to Prevent Gang Violence
The North Jakarta Police are inviting all stakeholders and community members to actively participate in preventing gang violence during the holy month of Ramadan and the upcoming Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijri. This step is taken to ensure that the security and public order situation remains conducive in the coastal area of Jakarta.
Chief of the North Jakarta Police, Commissioner Erick Frendriz, emphasized that inter-sectoral collaboration is crucial given the impact of gang violence, which often results in casualties.
“Gang violence has caused victims to suffer serious injuries, and some have even died. This is something we must anticipate together,” said Erick in Jakarta, Thursday (February 26).
As a concrete step, the police will establish monitoring posts in all vulnerable areas and border areas. These monitoring posts will be staffed by joint personnel from the military, police, local government, and community groups such as the FKDM (Community Security and Order Committee) and the LMK (Village Deliberation Council).
“The monitoring posts, which will be staffed by various elements, will not only involve the police and the military, but everyone will be involved in maintaining security together throughout the night,” he said.
Monitoring During Peak Hours
Erick requested that these posts be on high alert, especially during peak hours for gang violence, from 10:00 PM to dawn. He also issued a special appeal to teenagers who often engage in activities at night.
“We also appeal to teenagers who exercise at night to maintain their composure and not trigger gang violence,” added Erick.
This effort is strengthened by the deployment of 1,109 joint personnel in the Joint Community Security and Order Preparedness Ceremony. The Mayor of North Jakarta, Hendra Hidayat, stated that the ceremony aims to prepare all security facilities and infrastructure.
“This ceremony is to prepare ourselves and all personnel and facilities to maintain the security and order of residents in North Jakarta,” said Hendra.
The Crucial Role of Parents
In addition to security on the ground, Hendra Hidayat emphasized the importance of strengthening defenses from within the family. He asked parents to closely monitor their children’s activities to prevent them from being involved in criminal acts.
“We never stop inviting parents to take good care of their children so that they are not involved in gang violence,” said Hendra, Saturday (February 21).
The North Jakarta City Government has also instructed all levels of government, down to the village level, to act in unison. Hendra hopes that supervision will be carried out persuasively but firmly for the sake of comfort during worship in the month of Ramadan.
“We will not get tired of inviting parents to take care of their respective children, if they have not returned home, they should be looked for, and if it is late at night, children should be at home and not wandering around,” he concluded. (Ant/P-2)
