Jakarta (ANTARA) - The North Jakarta Police Chief, Kombes Pol Erick Frendiz, has asked residents to participate in maintaining security in the area to anticipate potential anarchic actions.

“As we know, recently there have been reports or movements that attempt to repeat the incidents of August last year, where we don’t know where they come from, then they gather and carry out attacks on public facilities and police stations,” said Erick in a statement in Jakarta, Thursday.

This was conveyed during a joint appeal with community organisations, community leaders, and religious leaders in North Jakarta, Wednesday (25/2).

Erick also asked residents to be vigilant in the next few days. “Keep an eye and ear out tonight and in the next few days so that the events of yesterday do not repeat themselves,” he said.

In the August 2025 incident, a group of people threw objects into the North Jakarta Metro Police headquarters. Then, provocateurs incited people from around the police station to also participate in the attack.

“So these people are trying to cause chaos. They then run away. As soon as there are arrests, they have already run away, and that is what we don’t want,” he said.

He said that this is a form of provocation or provocateurs, which is certainly undesirable. “So I think we all agree here that our area must be safe and peaceful,” said Erick.

He hopes that in welcoming Eid al-Fitr, everything can run smoothly, and fasting and worship can also run smoothly without any disturbances.

“We agree to jointly maintain the area of North Jakarta. Hopefully, God Almighty will give us blessings, health and safety, especially in this holy month of Ramadan,” he said.
