North Jakarta Parks and Forestry Officer Reprimanded for Smoking While Driving Official Truck

A driver of a truck belonging to the North Jakarta Parks and Urban Forestry (Tamhut) Sub-agency was caught smoking while driving an official vehicle, with the video going viral on social media. Footage seen by detikcom on Instagram on Thursday (23/7/2026) showed a motorcyclist reprimanding the driver of the official Distamhut vehicle, but the warning was ignored. In response, the North Jakarta Parks and Urban Forestry Sub-agency issued an apology via its official Instagram account on Thursday (23/7), stressing that the individual’s behaviour did not reflect the values, ethics, and service standards upheld by the institution. ‘We sincerely apologise to the public for the actions of this officer. The behaviour does not reflect the values, ethics, and service standards we uphold,’ the North Jakarta Tamhut Sub-agency stated in its post. The sub-agency also expressed regret over the incident, noting that smoking while driving endangers safety, violates traffic regulations, and tarnishes the institution’s reputation. As a follow-up, the officer in question has been summoned and given a stern warning and coaching. The agency will also impose sanctions in accordance with the disciplinary provisions of the PJLP employment contract and internal regulations. ‘We have summoned and given a stern warning and coaching to the officer concerned. We will also impose sanctions in accordance with the Contract Agreement on Discipline and the internal regulations of the North Jakarta Parks and Urban Forestry Sub-agency,’ the statement read. Going forward, the North Jakarta Tamhut Sub-agency is committed to tightening supervision and increasing routine coaching for all officers to prevent similar incidents. The agency also expressed appreciation to the public for providing criticism and oversight of public services.
