North Jakarta Municipal Government Apprehends 81 Welfare Service Beneficiaries Since Start of Ramadhan
The North Jakarta Municipal Government has apprehended 81 individuals classified as Welfare Service Beneficiaries (PPKS) through operations conducted by the Civil Police Unit (Satpol PP) in the Public Health Operation launched since 1 Ramadhan 1447 Hijriah/2026 to the present day.
“Since 1 Ramadhan to the present, a total of 81 PPKS individuals have been reached and directly taken to social care facilities,” said Ronny Jarpiko, Head of the North Jakarta Social Services Sub-Department, in Jakarta on Friday.
This initiative was implemented to provide protection and guidance to PPKS individuals so they develop skills and do not return to street life.
He explained that the apprehended PPKS individuals fell into various categories: five homeless persons, one abandoned child, 10 beggars, 22 street musicians, two informal street vendors, 36 illegal parking attendants, and five waste collectors.
Ronny assessed that training at social care facilities is an important step to enable PPKS individuals to acquire useful skills for leading more independent lives.
“We hope that through this training they can develop abilities and skills that are beneficial so they do not return to the streets,” he said.
“The operation is being conducted across six sub-districts in North Jakarta, targeting high-risk areas and main thoroughfares, such as shopping centres, mosques, and locations where PPKS individuals frequently gather,” he stated.
Authorities emphasised the operation will continue until the approach of Eid al-Fitr to maintain public order and community comfort.
“We remind the public not to give money directly on the streets. It is better for assistance to be channelled through official institutions so that social intervention can be conducted in a more targeted manner,” said Budhy Novian.
