North Jakarta Immigration Office arrests seven foreigners for overstaying visas
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Class I Special Immigration Office in North Jakarta arrested seven foreign nationals (WNA) for immigration violations involving exceeding the permitted stay period (overstay) during the Wira Waspada operation conducted at several apartments in the area. “The seven WNA originate from Nigeria and Liberia. One from Liberia, the other six from Nigeria,” stated Widya Anusa Brata, Head of the Intelligence and Security Section at the North Jakarta TPI Immigration Office, in Jakarta on Wednesday. In the Wira Waspada operation, officers arrested two WNA in an apartment in the Pademangan area. After further investigation, officers arrested five more WNA in an apartment in the Penjaringan area. “They violated immigration regulations such as lacking travel documents, overstaying, and misuse of stay permits,” he said. The seven WNA were then brought to the North Jakarta Immigration Office for further examination. After examination, officers proceeded to deport two of the detained WNA. “Two Nigerian WNA have already been deported, and the remaining five are still at the North Jakarta Immigration Office,” Widya said. He added that the Wira Waspada operation represents the Directorate General of Immigration’s commitment to upholding the law and strengthening oversight of the presence and activities of foreigners to protect national sovereignty. “The arrest of these WNA was also marked by a chase by officers. However, due to the alertness of immigration officers in the field, the seven WNA were successfully secured,” he stated.
