North Jakarta house fire suspected to have been caused by electrical short circuit
The North Jakarta and Thousand Islands Fire and Rescue Service (Gulkarmat) has stated that a house fire on Jalan Melati, Sunter Agung Urban Village, Tanjung Priok District, North Jakarta, on Sunday is suspected to have been caused by an electrical short circuit.
Gulkarmat Operations Section Head Gatot Sulaeman said in Jakarta on Sunday that, based on witness accounts, the fire in the two-storey residential house with a building area of 24 square metres was due to an electrical short circuit.
He said the witness, who is the owner of the rented house, smelled something burning. Upon investigation, thick smoke was billowing from the rented property located next to the house occupied by the witness.
According to him, the house was occupied by one head of family with four members, and the loss resulting from the fire is estimated at Rp20 million.
The North Jakarta and Thousand Islands Gulkarmat previously deployed 20 firefighting personnel to extinguish the house fire on Jalan Melati, Sunter Agung Urban Village, Tanjung Priok District, North Jakarta, on Sunday.
‘We received information about the fire at 11.00 WIB after residents reported the incident,’ said Gatot Sulaeman.
He said officers arrived at the location at 11.00 WIB and immediately began firefighting operations.
‘A total of four fire engine units and 20 personnel battled to extinguish the fire,’ he said.
He said the fire was successfully extinguished at around 11.29 WIB after the officers fought the blaze.
‘Thank God, the fire was successfully extinguished,’ he said.
