North Jakarta Government to Deploy Heavy Machinery for Waste Clearance in Muara Angke
The North Jakarta Environmental Agency (Sudin LH) will deploy two excavators to accelerate the dredging of waste along the Muara Angke coast in the Penjaringan District, starting Thursday (4/6).
“Today, officers have already been working, and the result is 20 cubic metres of waste successfully transported from the location,” said the Head of the Environmental Agency, Edy Mulyorkan, in Jakarta on Wednesday. In addition to the heavy machinery, the agency will deploy 50 joint personnel to clear the accumulated waste at the site. The agency aims to complete the cleaning process entirely within the next week.
Meanwhile, Lukman Dermanto, Head of the Waste, Hazardous, and Toxic Materials Management Section for the Thousand Islands Environmental Agency, stated that the volume of waste collected over the past few days has been significant. He noted that the waste collected from two days ago to the present has reached 20 cubic metres. “We are continuing our maximum efforts to ensure the coastal area becomes clean and comfortable once again,” he said.
He added that the current situation serves as a reminder for the public to increase awareness in reducing waste and to practise waste sorting at the source. His department has also coordinated with local communities to conduct mangrove planting once the cleaning process is finalised. “I hope that after this area is clean, mangrove planting can be carried out immediately. I urge the community to work together in preserving the environment,” said Lukman.
