North Jakarta Government Maps Potential for Brawls and Social Conflict
The North Jakarta City Government is mapping potential vulnerabilities for street brawls and social conflict through a focused discussion forum held by the North Jakarta Leadership Communication Forum (Forkopimko) on Thursday.
“All potential vulnerabilities will be mapped in detail as a basis for preparing anticipatory measures, so that brawls no longer occur and end in death,” said North Jakarta City Secretary Iyan Sopian Hadi in Jakarta on Thursday.
According to him, this action plan will be implemented jointly down to the lowest level to map potential vulnerabilities for brawls and other social conflicts.
He said one effort being undertaken is the formation of an integrated task force as a response to the rise in brawls that have caused fatalities and public unrest.
According to him, several incidents that occurred were very concerning and he hoped they would be the last in North Jakarta.
“Therefore we need the same commitment and intention from all parties to carry out prevention,” he said.
Iyan explained that prevention efforts will be carried out in an integrated manner starting from the city, sub-district, urban village, down to RT and RW levels.
In addition to law enforcement, the coordination meeting also emphasised the importance of providing guidance to children involved in brawls.
“Mentoring will be carried out together with the Correctional Centre (Bapas), the Social Sub-Department, and related agencies so that they can continue their education,” he said.
Meanwhile, North Jakarta City Council member Saipul Abu Gozali assessed that prevention activities have often missed their target because they have not reached the main actors of brawls.
He proposed strengthening the role of RT and RW administrators in proactively collecting resident data.
“There needs to be detailed identification and data collection of young people aged nine to 17 in every area. We propose that they be recorded and their identities documented by the authorities,” he said.
According to him, the measure aims to create a deterrent effect and a warning message that their identities have been recorded by the authorities (Police, TNI, and Prosecutors).
“With detailed supervision, it is hoped that young people will feel reluctant to commit criminal acts because they know they are being intensively monitored,” he said.
Previously, North Jakarta Metro Police Deputy Chief AKBP Rohman Yonky Dilatha stated that the North Jakarta City Leadership Coordination Forum Plus agreed to form five task forces that will work to prevent brawls and social conflict in the city.
“Five task forces have been formed consisting of the Detection Task Force, Preemptive Task Force, Preventive Task Force, Law Enforcement Task Force, and Assistance Task Force,” said North Jakarta Metro Police Deputy Chief AKBP Rohman Yonky Dilatha during the Focus Group Discussion to design strategies for anticipating brawls and social conflict in Jakarta on Thursday.
He explained that each task force has different functions ranging from early detection of vulnerable areas, education for students and youths, routine patrols, law enforcement against criminal offenders, to providing health services and trauma healing for victims and underage perpetrators.
