North Jakarta Forms Integrated Team to Prevent and Handle Brawls
North Jakarta Administrative City Secretary Iyan Sopian Hadi stated that preventing the rampant brawls in the area, which have led to injuries and fatalities, requires commitment and involvement from all parties. “Brawl prevention cannot be done partially; it requires commitment and involvement from all elements of government, security forces, community leaders, and residents,” he said in Jakarta on Sunday. According to him, a concrete step to be taken in North Jakarta is the formation of an Integrated Task Force tasked with coordinating early detection, prevention, handling, and guidance for brawl perpetrators. He hopes this will be the last such incident in North Jakarta and requires the same commitment and intention from all parties to carry out prevention. He explained that the action plan will be implemented in stages from the city, sub-district, and ward levels down to the neighbourhood and community unit levels. All areas will be mapped based on their level of vulnerability so that anticipatory measures can be carried out more quickly, precisely, and measurably. “This action plan will be implemented together down to the lowest level to map the potential for brawls and other social conflicts,” Iyan said. The forum serves as a strategic step to formulate an integrated action plan while strengthening cross-sector collaboration in anticipating potential brawls, which remain a shared concern in North Jakarta. North Jakarta Metro Police Deputy Chief AKBP Rohman Yonky Dilatha outlined the concept of the Anti-Brawl Task Force, which will be strengthened through five elements: the Detection Task Force, Preemptive Task Force, Preventive Task Force, Law Enforcement Task Force, and Support Task Force. According to him, each task force has complementary duties, ranging from detecting potential vulnerabilities and providing education to students and youths, to carrying out preventive patrols, enforcing the law against criminal offenders, and providing health services and trauma healing for victims and underage perpetrators. “If there is information about a planned brawl, all elements must be ready to respond. We are also involving all parties in preventive guarding,” he said.
