North Jakarta Food Security Office Ensures Livestock Food Products are Safe for Consumption
Jakarta — North Jakarta’s Sub-district Office for Food Security, Maritime, and Agriculture (Sudin KPKP) is conducting food safety oversight of animal-derived products at several poultry slaughterhouses (TPU) to ensure that local food products are safe for consumption.
“This activity is conducted to ensure that animal-derived food products circulating in society remain safe and suitable for consumption, especially during Ramadan through Eid al-Fitr,” said Novy Christine Palit, Head of Sudin KPKP Jakarta Utara, in Jakarta on Friday.
The animal slaughtering locations being monitored are located in RW 01, Sunter Agung Village, Tanjung Priok District. The activity targets six poultry slaughtering businesses out of approximately 40 similar operations running in the Sunter Agung area.
According to Novy, the oversight is part of veterinary public health activities aimed at guaranteeing the safety of animal-derived food products. Inspections are focused on the poultry slaughtering process to ensure compliance with health regulations and applicable hygiene standards.
“Our officers also check equipment conditions, cleanliness of slaughter premises, and the handling of chicken carcasses to maintain hygiene before they are marketed to consumers,” said Novy.
“This guidance aims to encourage business operators to apply good poultry slaughtering practices whilst maintaining environmental cleanliness around the business premises,” explained Riyadi.
Poultry slaughtering activities at the location typically occur during nighttime hours, from 11 p.m. to 2 a.m. Through routine oversight, it is hoped that the public will be able to obtain animal-derived food products that are safe, healthy, intact, halal, and fit for consumption.
“This activity will continue to be carried out sustainably as an effort to increase business operators’ awareness in maintaining the quality and hygiene of their products,” Riyadi emphasised.
