Jakarta (ANTARA) - The North Jakarta Sub-District Office for Food Security, Maritime, and Agriculture (Sudin KPKP Jakut) is carrying out continuous supervision in traditional markets and retail outlets to ensure that food products circulating in the area are safe for public consumption.

“We conducted supervision and examination of 64 food samples, both from traditional markets and supervised locations in the Koja and Cilincing sub-districts on Thursday (9/4),” said the Head of Sudin KPKP North Jakarta, Novy Christine Palit, in Jakarta on Friday.

She stated that the supervision was carried out at Pasar Koja, Pasar Rawa Badak, Pasar Lontar (Kebon Melati), Pasar Waru, as well as the Supervised Location (Lokbin) Rorotan.

According to her, of the total 64 samples examined, 46 were agricultural product samples and 18 were livestock product samples.

Novy mentioned that the activity is a routine programme carried out in collaboration with the DKI Jakarta Food Security, Maritime, and Agriculture Agency.

“The examination results show that all food products from those five markets are 100 percent safe for consumption. No harmful substances were found,” Novy emphasised.

She explained that the increasing public awareness of food safety is a driving force for the government to continue strengthening supervision.

“This programme is continuously carried out periodically in all markets spread across the six sub-districts of North Jakarta,” said Novy.

Meanwhile, one of the vegetable traders at Pasar Koja, Dian, said that the routine food product inspections provide greater peace of mind for both traders and consumers.

“We have no objections to these inspections. In fact, it’s good because buyers become more confident in what we sell,” she stated.
