North Jakarta Firefighters Battle Blaze on Ship at Muara Baru

The North Jakarta and Kepulauan Seribu Fire and Rescue Service (Gulkarmat) deployed 30 personnel and 11 fire engines to tackle a ship fire at the Muara Baru dock in Penjaringan, North Jakarta, on Thursday evening. The head of the service’s operations section, Gatot Sulaeman, said the fire was reported by local residents at 7:39 PM local time, and firefighting operations commenced at 7:50 PM. As of the latest update, the fire was still burning and officers were struggling to bring it under control, with Gatot noting the possibility of the flames spreading. The cause of the fire and the estimated losses are still under investigation.
