North Jakarta Environmental Agency Takes Action Against Rubbish Burner in Pluit

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The North Jakarta City Environmental Sub-Department has taken action and provided education to the perpetrator of rubbish burning on Jalan Pluit Karang Karya, Penjaringan Ward, to give a deterrent effect to those who burn rubbish.

“Officers issued a warning letter, sanctions, and a retribution fine to the warehouse owner who was proven to have burned rubbish,” said the Head of the North Jakarta City Environmental Sub-Department, Edy Mulyanto, in Jakarta on Tuesday.

He stated that this enforcement activity involved supervisors and law enforcers from the North Jakarta City Environmental Sub-Department, the Penjaringan District Environmental Task Force, the local RT chairman, and personnel from the Penjaringan Ward PPSU.

According to him, in addition to enforcement, officers also provided education on the negative impacts of rubbish burning on the environment and public health.

He emphasised that rubbish burning is not permitted and will be subject to firm sanctions.

“We have issued warnings and sanctions in accordance with the provisions. We also urge the individual not to repeat the act and to manage rubbish properly,” he said.

He advised that if there are waste problems, the community can coordinate with the ward office or the Penjaringan District Environmental Task Force for appropriate handling.

The act of burning rubbish in DKI Jakarta is regulated under Regional Regulation Number 4 of 2019 on Amendments to Regional Regulation Number 3 of 2013 on Waste Management.

Perpetrators caught in the act of burning that does not comply with technical requirements may be fined Rp500,000 or even face criminal sanctions if proven to pollute the environment.

Meanwhile, Joko Purnomo, Chairman of RT 22 RW 008, supports the enforcement of these rules and fully backs the actions of the Environmental Sub-Department.

He hopes such incidents will not recur and that residents will become more aware of not burning rubbish indiscriminately.

He stated that with this enforcement, public awareness of environmentally friendly waste management is increasing.

“At the same time, it creates a cleaner, healthier environment free from pollution,” he said.
