North Jakarta Environment Office Claims to Remove Waste from Illegal Landfill in Penjaringan Daily
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The North Jakarta Environment Office claims to have been continuously removing waste from the location of the illegal landfill next to the Penjaringan City Forest Park, North Jakarta, every day for the past week.
The Head of the Environment Implementation Unit (Kasatpel) for the Penjaringan sub-district, Fadli, said that the cleanup process involves several agencies.
“The fleet working there is a combination of the North Jakarta Environment Office, the UPS BA, and the Thousand Islands Environment Office, with heavy equipment assistance from the SDA,” he said when contacted by Kompas.com, Friday (15/5/2026).
“Instructions have been followed up quickly; once it is level, it will be covered with mud by the SDA,” he said.
He revealed that access to the illegal landfill is now being guarded by a team from the local village to prevent further waste dumping.
“The target is to complete it as soon as possible. The location for access is being guarded by a team from the village,” said Fadli.
“Yes, the smell, when the wind blows in this direction, is quite strong. The smell of the garbage is very pungent and can be smelled strongly,” said Stan.
He said that officers have visited the location several times after the issue went viral on social media. However, he believes that more decisive action is needed to ensure the location is completely cleaned up.
“(We) really want it to be tidy soon. More decisive action is needed; it shouldn’t just be visited a few times,” he said.
For information, complaints from residents regarding the piles of garbage on Jalan Kepanduan 2, Penjaringan, North Jakarta, continue to recur.
A local resident, Jayadi (not his real name), said that the waste dumping activity is still ongoing, causing the piles to continue to grow, even though it has been reported through the JAKI application.
“It has been reported through JAKI, but it is still active until now,” he said when met by Kompas.com near the location, Wednesday (14/4/2026).
