Jakarta (ANTARA) - The North Jakarta Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol PP) rounded up a number of costumed buskers, vagrants, scavengers, informal traffic wardens known as “pak ogah,” and other individuals classified as Persons Requiring Social Welfare Services (PPKS) during a Public Nuisance Operation (Operasi Pekat), transporting them to social shelters.

“A total of 32 PPKS individuals were caught in the Pekat Operation conducted jointly with a combined team on Sunday evening (23/2),” said North Jakarta Satpol PP Head Budhy Novian in Jakarta on Monday.

He said the 32 apprehended individuals were immediately sent to the Bina Bangun Daya Dua Social Shelter in Cipayung and the North Jakarta Social Affairs Sub-agency.

“Seventeen of the apprehended PPKS were taken to the Bina Bangun Daya Dua Social Shelter in Cipayung, and the remaining 15 were taken to the North Jakarta Social Affairs Sub-agency,” Budhy said.

He detailed that on Jalan Yos Sudarso, officers picked up two informal traffic wardens. In Penjaringan sub-district, four PPKS individuals were caught — three informal traffic wardens and one scavenger — during the operation on Jalan Pluit Karang Utara.

In Tanjung Priok sub-district, officers operated along Jalan Yos Sudarso, Jalan Enggano, Jalan Tenggiri, Jalan RE Martadinata and Taman Bahari. A total of nine PPKS individuals were caught across the five locations, comprising four destitute persons, one vagrant, one busker, one hawker and two informal traffic wardens.

“In total, seven buskers were caught in the operation across these locations,” Budhy disclosed.

Additionally, in Cilincing sub-district, officers operated along Jalan Raya Cilincing, Jalan Kramat Raya, Jalan Sungai Landak, Jalan Tipar Cakung and Jalan Kelapa Hibrida Terusan Sukapura, netting a total of three PPKS individuals.

In Pademangan sub-district, six PPKS individuals were caught during operations conducted along Jalan Gunung Sahari, Jalan Mangga Dua Raya, Jalan Lodan Raya, Jalan Lodan Timur, Jalan Benyamin Sueb and Jalan Budi Mulia.

In Kelapa Gading sub-district, one scavenger was apprehended. Officers swept through Jalan Boulevard Barat, Jalan Kelapa Nias, Jalan Boulevard Artha Gading, Jalan Boulevard Raya and Jalan Boulevard Utara.

Budhy said the Pekat Operation represented the government’s efforts to maintain public order and provide a sense of security for the community, particularly during the month of Ramadan.

According to him, the operation also aimed to create a conducive environment so that the public could carry out their worship comfortably.

He affirmed that Pekat Operations would continue to be conducted routinely, especially during Ramadan.

“This is a form of the government’s commitment to maintaining order and public tranquillity in the DKI Jakarta region, particularly North Jakarta,” Budhy said.
