North Jakarta City Government Transforms Former Illegal Waste Site in Sungai Bambu into a Park
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Sub-Department of Parks and City Forests (Sudin Tamhut) of North Jakarta is transforming a former illegal waste disposal site (TPS) in Kencana RW 08, Sungai Bambu Sub-District, Tanjung Priok District, into a beautiful park. “We continue to carry out urban spatial planning. One of them is through the arrangement of the space under the Wiyoto Wiyono Toll Road at the former TPS site into a park,” said the Head of the Tanjung Priok District Parks and Forests Implementation Unit, Aditya Febiarizky, in Jakarta on Tuesday. According to him, this arrangement is a follow-up to the city government’s programme to optimise the function of the space under the toll road to make it more organised, green, and aesthetic. He stated that this arrangement aims to transform the area, which was previously an illegal TPS, into a comfortable and visually pleasing green space. “This also aims to prevent the recurrence of illegal waste accumulation,” said Aditya. According to him, the arrangement involves planting various types of ornamental plants, such as hanjuang kribo and pandan bali. “The area being arranged covers around 40 square metres with thousands of plants,” he said. He explained that the applied park concept not only highlights visual beauty but also considers water absorption aspects. For this reason, the park area is equipped with split stones or gravel to increase water absorption capacity while beautifying the appearance. “To date, the work progress has reached nearly 90 percent and is targeted to be completed this week,” Aditya stated. The work has been carried out in stages since early April 2026, involving five Green Troops personnel equipped with supporting equipment. “We will certainly also deploy officers for routine maintenance. However, we urge residents to help maintain and care for the plants so that they remain well-kept and beautiful,” he said.
