North Jakarta City Government Provides Bullying Prevention and Mental Health Education During School Orientation

The North Jakarta City Government, through the Sub-department of Empowerment, Child Protection and Population Control (Sudin PPAPP), is providing education on the prevention of violence against children and adolescent mental health during the School Environment Introduction Period (MPLS).

“This education aims to strengthen the prevention of violence against children while raising awareness of the importance of adolescent mental health,” said Nurjanah, Head of the Child Protection Section at Sudin PPAPP North Jakarta, at SMA Negeri 72 Jakarta on Wednesday.

She stated that the socialisation is being carried out simultaneously in six sub-districts from 13-17 July 2026, targeting new students from elementary school (SD), junior high school (SMP), to senior high school (SMA) levels. This year, the focus is on adolescent mental health, which is closely linked to efforts to prevent bullying in the school environment.

Nurjanah explained that the programme carries the theme “PPAPP North Jakarta Cares,” which is an acronym for Friendship, Empathy, Accompany, Express, and Protect Children. “Through this theme, we want to encourage the creation of a school culture that is safe, inclusive, and child-friendly,” she said.

Meanwhile, MPLS committee member at SMAN 72 Jakarta, Muhammad Efendi, expressed his appreciation for the programme. “The material provided is very relevant in shaping the character of new students to respect each other and create a safe learning environment from day one,” Efendi said.

During the session, students also gained new experiences through a practical butterfly hug technique, a simple method to help calm oneself and recognise emotions. A 14-year-old student from class X-C, Putri Adinda, shared her thoughts: “We learned how to manage emotions, the importance of empathy, and where to seek help if we need psychological support. I hope activities like this can be held more often.”
