North Jakarta City Government Conducts Free TB Screening in Aquarium Stack Village
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The North Jakarta City Government (Pemkot Jakut) conducted free tuberculosis (TB) screenings for residents in Kampung Susun Akuarium, Penjaringan sub-district, North Jakarta, on Thursday. “We are carrying out health checks in the form of sputum tests and chest X-rays to commemorate World Tuberculosis Day,” said Penjaringan Ward Head Makhrus Nugroho D in Jakarta on Thursday. He stated that the event was attended by 100 residents who underwent X-ray examinations and 30 residents who had sputum tests as part of early TB detection. According to him, the activity resulted from collaboration between Penjaringan Ward, Penjaringan Health Centre, Penjaringan Auxiliary Health Centre 1, PT PLN Nusantara Power, Atmajaya Catholic University’s Faculty of Medicine, and neighbourhood association cadres in Penjaringan Ward. Makhrus assessed that the screening activity represents the government’s concern for public health, particularly in efforts to prevent and detect TB early. Additionally, the screening serves as a preventive measure to increase public awareness of the importance of early TB detection. “We hope that residents become more concerned about their own health and the environment,” said Makhrus. Meanwhile, Nurul Hilal, Head of Social Welfare Section at Penjaringan Ward, stated that cross-sectoral collaboration is key to supporting TB management in the area. She also revealed that the event is not merely a health screening but also education for the public to better understand TB symptoms and the importance of early examinations. “We hope the public becomes more aware of the importance of routine health checks, so that TB management can be carried out more quickly and effectively to create a healthy and TB-free environment,” concluded Nurul.
