North Jakarta and Thousand Islands Fire and Rescue Sub-District Office Enhances Volunteer Firefighters' Capabilities

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The North Jakarta and Thousand Islands Fire and Rescue Sub-District Office (Sudin Gulkarmat) is enhancing the capabilities and competencies of Firefighting Volunteers (Redkar) in Pulau Untung Jawa village, South Thousand Islands sub-district.

“This activity is part of the Redkar development programme to improve their ability to handle fires,” said Head of Sector VIII of the South Thousand Islands sub-district, Sumarno, in Jakarta on Friday.

According to him, the activity aims to increase the capacity and preparedness of the community in facing potential fires in residential environments.

He said that on the first day, Thursday (23/4), they conducted fire prevention socialisation to 30 residents.

Then, on Friday, it was continued with coaching for 30 Redkar volunteers so that they have basic knowledge and skills in fire handling.

“The presence of trained Redkar is expected to carry out initial fire handling quickly, before officers arrive at the location,” said Sumarno.

Meanwhile, the Head of Pulau Untung Jawa village, Muslim, assessed that the training was very beneficial in increasing community awareness and preparedness.

“We strongly support this activity because it can equip residents with practical knowledge in preventing and handling fires in their respective environments,” said Muslim.

One of the Firefighting Volunteers, Andi (35), revealed that the material provided in the training was very easy to understand and applicable.

He also admitted to becoming more knowledgeable and understanding the initial steps that must be taken when a fire occurs.

“Hopefully, this knowledge can be applied to maintain the safety of the environment,” said Andi.
