North Jakarta Administration Strengthens Outreach to Prevent Child Violence
The City Administration, through the North Jakarta Sub-department for Empowerment, Child Protection and Population Control (PPAPP), is strengthening socialisation as an effort to prevent violence against children. “Socialisation is carried out in schools and to parents in order to suppress acts of violence,” said Nurjanah, Head of the Child Protection Section at the North Jakarta PPAPP Sub-department, on Wednesday. She cited an example of socialisation conducted in 16 schools in North Jakarta, from primary to senior high school level, during the School Environment Introduction Period (MPLS). “During this MPLS period, new students are introduced to violence prevention, bullying and mental health,” she said. The agency also provides education that every act of violence against a child carries legal consequences and can result in the perpetrator being charged with a criminal offence. “We also conduct socialisation through social media with digital posters, online outreach to the public and educational videos on video channels,” said Nurjanah. Complaints can also be made at the PPAPP Sub-department Office or via the 112 call centre. “We encourage the public to be brave in reporting acts of violence against children, so that efforts can be made to provide healing and reduce the rate of violence,” she said. In North Jakarta, 164 cases of child violence were recorded based on domicile and 202 cases based on the location of the incident from January to July 2026. “We continue to strive to strengthen cooperation with cross-sectors and the community to reduce this rate of violence. We hope all parties can be directly involved in preventing these cases from occurring,” Nurjanah stated.
