The North Jakarta City Administration continues to strengthen environmental awareness movements, involving the active participation of the community, ranging from schools to residential areas, to build an eco-friendly culture.

“A total of 48 schools received the 2026 North Jakarta Level Adiwiyata School award, and 19 neighbourhood units (RW) in Sunter Agung Village successfully achieved the ProKlim Pratama (Climate Village Programme) status. This is proof that our programme is working,” said the Head of the North Jakarta Environmental Agency, Edy Mulyanto, in Jakarta on Wednesday.

He stated that the Adiwiyata award is not merely an appreciation but serves as a catalyst for other schools to establish an environmentally friendly culture from an early age.

“Moving forward, we will challenge schools that have not yet achieved Adiwiyata status to provide examples of eco-friendly behaviour, such as waste bank management, the 3Rs (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle), healthy canteens, segregated waste bins, and various other activities,” he added.

He further noted that the eco-friendly school movement continues to expand. Following the initial declaration of Adiwiyata schools, nearly 167 schools in North Jakarta have now transitioned into environmentally conscious and friendly institutions.

According to Edy, this spirit aligns with the development of the Climate Village Programme. This year, RW 05 in Sunter Agung Village is being encouraged towards ProKlim Lestari status, following the success of RW 01 Sunter Jaya, which achieved ProKlim Lestari in 2025.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Environmental Generation Development Centre of the Ministry of Environment, Lulu Agustina, appreciated North Jakarta’s consistency in developing various environmental awareness movements.

“North Jakarta is extraordinary. Since 2024, it has shown very good progress. In Sunter Agung, there are 19 neighbourhood units that have achieved ProKlim Pratama, and one unit is being directed towards ProKlim Lestari,” she revealed.

She emphasised that the Adiwiyata programme does not stop at theoretical environmental learning. Beyond that, the programme is expected to be able to shape the character and habits of environmental care in children from an early age.

“What we want is a change in children’s behaviour. What is learned at school can be brought to the home environment and applied with the family,” said Lulu.

She urged all parties, particularly schools, to continue evaluating their respective environmental conditions.

The Ministry of Environment will continue to provide assistance to realise a generation that cares for the environment while maintaining the sustainability of life.

“This movement is also an important part of strengthening the spirit of mutual cooperation (gotong royong) within the community,” she concluded.
