North Jakarta administration distributes honourarium to independence war veterans

The North Jakarta Government has distributed honourary allowances to 90 members of the Indonesian Veterans Legion (LVRI) North Jakarta as a form of respect and appreciation for the independence fighters.

“This is a form of respect and appreciation for our elders, the members of LVRI North Jakarta. Thank you for the struggle and the spirit of independence that continues to be championed,” said North Jakarta Mayor Hendra Hidayat in Jakarta on Friday.

Hendra said that although times have changed, the values of the struggle must not be allowed to fade.

The spirit of unity, courage, sacrifice and love for the homeland remains a legacy that needs to be instilled in the younger generation.

“Most importantly, the spirit and values of the struggle of all of you can continue to serve as an example for children and the younger generation,” he said.

Hendra said that for today’s younger generation, the presence of dozens of LVRI North Jakarta members serves as a reminder that independence did not come about by itself.

Chairman of LVRI North Jakarta, Yohannes W. Kussoy, expressed appreciation for the attention given by the North Jakarta City Administration to the veterans.

“Thank you for the care and attention towards us. May this synergy continue so that the relationship between veterans and the next generation grows ever closer,” he said.

He also conveyed a message to the younger generation not to stop remembering history, but to fill it with achievements and positive contributions to the nation.

“Safeguarding the integrity of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI) is a form of struggle that the current generation can undertake,” he said.

The members of LVRI North Jakarta also received free health check-up services.
