North coast highways damaged

SEMARANG, Central Java: Incessant rain across Central Java has
damaged highways along the northern coast of the province,
delaying vehicles traveling along the Semarang-Jakarta route.

As of Thursday, roads damaged by the rain included stretches
through Tegal, Pemalang, Batang, Kendal and as far as Weleri.

Central Java Governor H. Mardiyanto, speaking in Semarang on
Thursday, asked the minister of resettlement and regional
infrastructure to disburse Rp 14 billion to repair the roads. The
money would come from the government's road maintenance fund.

"We would use the money in particular to repair the roads
along the severely damaged section between Brebes and Semarang,"
the governor said. --Antara
