North Coast Authority States Giant Sea Wall Project Still in Planning Stage

JAKARTA - The Head of the North Coast Authority Management Agency (Pantura), Didit Herdiawan Ashaf, revealed that the Giant Sea Wall project along Java’s North Coast is still in the planning stage to prepare for its construction.

“Yes, regarding the Giant Sea Wall. It is still in the planning stage, and we will delve deeper into activities related to construction,” Didit said at the Presidential Palace Complex in Jakarta on Monday (20/4/2026).

Didit, Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries Sakti Wahyu Trenggono, and Minister of Higher Education, Science and Technology Brian Yuliarto were summoned by President Prabowo Subianto for a meeting on the Giant Sea Wall project in Pantura.

However, he said that at the very least, its construction could be accelerated.

Additionally, Didit mentioned that they have not yet discussed investments for the Giant Sea Wall.

“The plan from the calculations is still being calculated in terms of timing, as it relates to utilising all available resources in Indonesia. So, one of the main aspects is that we can utilise environmental matters to absorb things related to waste,” Didit stated.

Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) stated that the construction of the Giant Sea Wall cannot be done in a short time because it requires thorough planning, appropriate technology, and adequate budgetary support.

“This is a large and long-term project, so it is not viewed in one or two years, or even five, ten, up to 20 years ahead,” AHY said on Wednesday (21/01/2026).

AHY explained that the construction of the Giant Sea Wall is a mandate from President Prabowo Subianto through the establishment of the Java North Coast Management Authority Agency (BOPPJ).
