North Barito Begins Rp48 Billion Slum Upgrading Project in Lanjas
The Barito Utara Regency Government, Central Kalimantan, has begun the redevelopment of slum residential areas in the Lanjas ward, valued at Rp48.55 billion, marked by a groundbreaking ceremony and the handover of land relocation certificates.
“This activity is a concrete step by the local government to improve the quality of residential areas while supporting the urban facelift of Muara Teweh City,” said Junaidi, Head of the Barito Utara Department of Housing, Residential Areas, and Land, in Muara Teweh on Wednesday.
According to him, the development adheres to several regulations, including the Barito Utara Regency Regional Budget (APBD) Regulation for the 202_ fiscal year, the Regent’s Decree on the Designation of Slum Housing and Residential Areas, the Regent’s Regulation regarding the Detailed Spatial Plan (RDTR) for the Muara Teweh Urban Area 2022–2042, and the Barito Utara Regional Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMD) 2024–2029.
The scope of work, he stated, includes the redevelopment of slum residential areas along 610 metres in RT 04, RT 05, and RT 06 of the Lanjas ward, improving the quality of the environment and public spaces, widening and upgrading roads, and the construction of a Waterfront City area.
“For the first phase this year, the length of the intervention implemented reaches 372 metres of the total planned 610 metres. The remainder will continue in 2027 so that the entire area can be comprehensively organised,” he explained.
Junaidi hopes that the development will be able to reduce slum areas, improve the quality of the residential environment, enhance community accessibility, and present a more organised, safe, and comfortable riverside area that serves as a new icon for Muara Teweh City.
The Regent of Barito Utara, Shalahuddin, stated that the development is one of the strategic projects of the Barito Utara Regency Government in realising a more organised, clean, healthy, safe, and comfortable urban area for the community.
“Today serves as a historical witness to the start of the strategic project for the redevelopment of the slum areas in RT 04, RT 05, and RT 06 of the Lanjas ward,” said Regent Shalahuddin.
According to him, Muara Teweh City, as the centre of government and economic activity for Barito Utara Regency, deserves adequate infrastructure as well as a more beautiful and representative city image.
Through this slum redevelopment project, the government is not only improving the physical condition of the environment but is also striving to enhance the quality of life for the community by providing a healthier environment, improved sanitation, and more habitable residential areas.
“The local government remains committed to presenting better urban spatial planning. This area redevelopment is not merely about beautifying the city’s face, but also about improving the quality of life, environmental health, and community comfort,” said Shalahuddin.
