Norman Ginting Appointed Acting Chair of METI to Oversee National Energy Transition
JAKARTA – Norman Ginting has been officially appointed as Acting Chair (Plt.) of the Indonesian Renewable Energy Society (METI) on Monday (4/5/2026), strengthening the organisation’s commitment to overseeing the acceleration of the energy transition and the development of new renewable energy (EBT) at the national level.
Norman, who also serves as Director of Projects & Operations at Pertamina New & Renewable Energy (Pertamina NRE), is expected to further enhance cross-stakeholder collaboration in supporting Indonesia’s strategic clean energy agenda.
“METI will continue to strengthen its role as a strategic partner to the Government in driving a directed and impactful national energy transition,” Norman stated in a press release on Wednesday (6/5/2026).
“The development of new renewable energy must become the foundation of Indonesia’s energy resilience and independence, while also opening up new economic growth opportunities, creating green jobs, and strengthening national industry and technology capacity,” he added.
Amid rising energy security challenges and global energy transition demands, METI under Norman’s leadership is directed to further solidify its role as a strategic government partner. The energy transition is viewed not only as an emissions reduction agenda but also as an opportunity to bolster energy independence and drive national economic growth based on clean energy.
According to him, developing these sectors is crucial for strengthening national energy resilience while reducing dependence on fossil fuels.
In addition to promoting EBT projects, METI is directed to take a more active role in supporting the growth of the national clean energy industry ecosystem. Through this approach, Indonesia is expected not only to become a market for technology but also to develop as a developer, producer, operator, and innovator of competitive clean energy technology.
With this approach, the energy transition is hoped not only to focus on environmental targets but also to create added value for national economic growth.
As the home of national energy transition collaboration, METI will continue to strengthen cross-sector synergies to accelerate the implementation of new renewable energy and realise Indonesia’s energy resilience. The appointment of Norman Ginting as the helm of METI also reflects the seriousness of the Pertamina Group in supporting the national energy transition agenda by placing one of its best cadres to lead the national renewable energy organisation.
