Jakarta (ANTARA) - The East Jakarta City Government (Pemkot Jaktim) has assured that the availability of non-subsidised liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) remains secure and sufficient to meet public needs, despite a price adjustment that takes effect from 18 April 2026. “So far, stocks of non-subsidised LPG in 5.5 kilogram and 12 kilogram sizes in the East Jakarta region are in a safe condition and sufficient to meet public needs. Detailed quota data is held by the DKI Jakarta Manpower, Transmigration, and Energy Agency (Nakertransgi),” said the Head of the East Jakarta Industrial, Trade, Cooperatives, Small and Medium Enterprises Sub-Department (PPKUKM), Andi Ahmad Refi, in Jakarta on Friday. This assurance was given to quell residents’ concerns regarding potential shortages of LPG gas in the market. To anticipate the possibility of stock shortages, Andi stated that his office, together with the Trade Division of the DKI Jakarta PPKUKM Department, continues to monitor the availability and prices of LPG, as well as other essential goods in the market. “This step is taken as a form of supervision to ensure smooth distribution and controlled prices,” Andi said. In addition, regarding plans to establish a public complaints post, Andi mentioned that his office will still coordinate with the Assistant for Economy and Development (Ekbang) and the Economy Section of the East Jakarta City Secretariat. This coordination is necessary to determine the appropriate steps in accommodating and following up on public complaints. Furthermore, Andi also reminded LPG distributors and agents to maintain supplies and not engage in any form of hoarding. Hoarding practices can harm the public and potentially cause shortages in the market. “We urge distributors and agents to maintain supplies and not hoard. Meanwhile, for retailers, to sell in accordance with official price and distribution regulations,” Andi stated. Not only that, the public is also asked not to make excessive purchases. Residents are urged to buy LPG according to their needs so that distribution remains even and does not trigger panic in the community. Nevertheless, the East Jakarta PPKUKM Sub-Department admitted that it does not yet have detailed data on the number of LPG distributors, agents, or retailers in its area. That data is held by PT Pertamina (Persero) as the party responsible for the distribution of that energy. It is known that the non-subsidised LPG price adjustment is quite significant. For 12 kilogram LPG, there is an increase of Rp36,000 or around 18.75 percent, from previously Rp192,000 to Rp228,000 per cylinder. Meanwhile, 5.5 kilogram LPG experiences an increase of Rp17,000 or around 18.89 percent, from Rp90,000 to Rp107,000 per cylinder. Andi hopes that with secure stock conditions and ongoing supervision, the public can remain calm and not be affected by issues of LPG shortages amid the occurring price increase.
