Non-Subsidised Fuel Price Adjustments Trigger Transport Inflation in June 2026

The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) recorded that the adjustment of non-subsidised fuel oil (BBM) prices was the main trigger for inflation in the transportation group, which reached 2.29% month-to-month (mtm) in June 2026. The commodity of petrol contributed significantly, with a share of 0.21% to the inflation in that group.

Deputy for Distribution and Services Statistics at BPS, Ateng Hartono, explained that throughout June 2026, there were two adjustments to non-subsidised fuel prices. On 1 June, the price of Pertamax Turbo rose by approximately 4%, while Dexlite and Pertamina Dex actually experienced price decreases. However, on 10 June, the price of Pertamax (RON 92) jumped sharply by 32% or around Rp4,050.

“Inflation in the petrol commodity was triggered by the adjustment of prices for several types of non-subsidised fuel,” said Ateng.

Besides petrol, the increase in air transport fares during the school holiday period also contributed to transportation inflation. Overall, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) in June 2026 experienced a monthly inflation of 0.44% (mtm). In addition to transportation, the food, beverage, and tobacco group also experienced inflation of 0.20%, driven by increases in the prices of shallots, garlic, and rice.

Based on its components, administered prices were the highest contributor to inflation, with a share of 0.27%. Regionally, all provinces in Indonesia experienced monthly inflation.
