Non-Active Bekasi Regent Ade Kunang Faces 7-Year Sentence, Father 4 Years

BANDUNG - Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) prosecutors have demanded a seven-year prison sentence for suspended Bekasi Regent Ade Kunang Kuswara and four years for his father HM Kunang at a hearing at the Bandung Corruption Court on Monday (3/8/2026). Both were found to have been proven guilty in a case of alleged bribery over projects in the Bekasi district government.

KPK prosecutor Ade Azhari said the demand for defendant Ade Kunang Kuswara was a seven-year prison sentence, whilst his father faced four years. They were also demanded to pay restitution of Rp11.4 billion and Rp1 billion respectively.

“For the two defendants, the sentence demanded for the first defendant is seven years, and for the second defendant HM Kunang, four years,” he told journalists following the hearing on Monday (3/8/2026).

He said that if the restitution could not be paid by the two defendants, it would be replaced with three years of imprisonment. In addition, another demand was the revocation of Ade Kunang’s political rights for five years.

The prosecution had no objection if the defendants denied the charges presented by the KPK prosecutors, as that was the defendants’ right. However, the prosecution was confident, based on the available evidence, that both were guilty.

He said the prosecution possessed a range of evidence, including transaction records, witness statements, evidence of instructions, and communications between the defendants and several heads of district agencies.

Meanwhile, suspended Bekasi Regent Ade Kunang Kuswara said the KPK prosecutors’ allegation that he had manipulated projects worth Rp107 billion was a rhetorical ploy in the indictment. He insisted that the projects in question were tendered by the acting Regent of Bekasi at the time.
