Nomination Registration Opens for Recipients of the Zayed Award for Human Fraternity
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Nomination registration for recipients of the Zayed Award for Human Fraternity 2027 has opened, as a framework to honour individuals, institutions, and organisations working to strengthen the foundations of human brotherhood.
“The opening of nominations for the eighth edition of this global independent award reflects the ongoing mission to highlight and honour the pioneering humanitarian efforts that contribute to serving humanity and promoting the values of human brotherhood globally,” said Secretary General of the Zayed Award for Human Fraternity, Counsellor Mohamed Abdel Salam, in his statement in Jakarta on Tuesday.
The Zayed Award for Human Fraternity is given annually to individuals or institutions that make significant contributions to fostering human brotherhood, supporting values of dialogue, and promoting tolerance and solidarity.
This award is based on the humanitarian values enshrined in the Document on Human Fraternity, signed by the Chairman of the Muslim Council of Elders, Grand Sheikh Al Azhar Ahmed Al-Tayeb, and the late Pope Francis, former Pope of the Catholic Church.
The award embodies the legacy of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, to strengthen the values of human brotherhood, based on respecting every person, preserving their dignity, and helping them without regard to religion, gender, race, or nationality.
Nomination registration for this award can be submitted via the website https://zayedaward.org until 1 October 2026.
“This year, we hope to receive new nominations from individuals and institutions that provide effective contributions to strengthening the values of human brotherhood globally,” he said.
Recipients of the award will receive a prize of US$1 million. The amount of this prize was first announced following the historic meeting in Abu Dhabi in 2019 between Grand Sheikh Al Azhar and the late Pope Francis.
Since 2019, the award has recognised 20 individuals and organisations from 20 countries for their contributions in various humanitarian fields, including health, education, sustainability, refugee support, community development, food provision for those affected by crises, youth and women’s empowerment, and more.
Two of Indonesia’s largest Islamic organisations, Muhammadiyah and Nahdlatul Ulama (NU), previously received the Zayed Award 2024 for promoting peace and international solidarity among grassroots communities.
