Nomadic farmers resettled

JAMBI, Jambi: Some 300 semi-nomadic families have been resettled under the state-sponsored transmigration program and employed at a plantation company.

Head of the local office of the Ministry of Transmigration Hartadi was quoted by Antara as saying that this is the first phase of resettlement for 1995-1996.

The families will assemble with other transmigrants from the populous island of Java and other areas around Jambi, including the Kerinci Seblat National Park.

For the coming fiscal year, he said, Jambi plans to resettle 2,632 families under the same program. (pwn)
